What makes us unique:

1. The Evangelical Free Church of America is inclusive not exclusive.
The great heritage of Evangelical Free Church people around the world includes the fact that fellowship and ministry opportunities in the local church are based solely on one's personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and trusting in Him alone for salvation.

2. The Evangelical Free Church of America is evangelical but not separatistic.
The Evangelical Free Church of America is evangelical but not separatistic. The Evangelical Free Church was born out of a heritage of commitment to the authority and inerrancy of Scripture. We need deep convictions based on the authority of God's Word, but we do not draw battle lines over minor points. Nor do we make minor issues of doctrine a test of fellowship in the local church. 3. The Evangelical Free Church of America is ecumenical in spirit though not in structure.
We believe in the spiritual unity of the Church though not necessarily in structural union. We join with other Christians and other denominations of like, precious faith in common goals and ministries to accomplish the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. But we believe that there is strength in diversity and that it is important to preserve our distinctives. We recognize that union in structure does not guarantee unity of spirit. Our foremost concern is unity of spirit with our Lord, with each other and with other Christians.

4. The Evangelical Free Church of America believes in liberty with responsibility and accountability.
We believe in Christian liberty, but freedom always has its limitations. Responsible Christians do not abuse freedom. The apostle Paul wrote forcefully about Christian liberty in the Book of Galatians. He shattered the legalists with the doctrine of grace. But in First and Second Corinthians and Romans, the apostle also rebuked believers when liberty was abused. He declared boldly the principles of Christian liberty, but spoke with equal forcefulness about Christian accountability..

The Evangelical Free Church desires to preserve our freedom in Christ. We encourage our people to be responsible, godly men, women and young people who desire to live under the control of the Holy Spirit, in obedience to the principles and precepts of God's Word, and in harmony with God's will for life as revealed in Scriptures.

5. The Evangelical Free Church of America believes in both the rational and relational dimensions of Christianity.
We believe the Scriptures must be applied to our individual lives with warmth of heart, warmth of message and warmth of concern. We believe it is essential to have solid, biblical content in our doctrinal understanding of faith, but it is equally important to have a dynamic, vital relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ the Son and to live by the power of the Holy Spirit. Sound Christian doctrine must be coupled with dynamic Christian experience. Ours is a ministry of love and spiritual reconciliation.6. The Evangelical Free Church of America affirms the right of each local church to govern its own affairs.
The Evangelical Free Church is committed to a congregational form of government as stated in Article 10 or our Confession of Faith: "We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Head of the Church and that every local church has the right, under Christ, to decide and govern its own affairs." Strong pastoral leadership coupled with discerning and well-equipped Christian lay people can produce spiritual growth as well as significant church growth. While the EFCA affirms the right of each local church to govern its own affairs, we also believe in the biblical values of interdependence and cooperation. We are a movement of churches committed to working with one another in order to fulfill the Great Commission in the United States and abroad. This is only possible when there are strong ties with other EFCA churches, with local district organizations and with the national EFCA ministries.

10 Leading Indicators of a Healthy Church - Healthy Church

1. Centrality of God's Word (2 Timothy 3:16,17)
We are committed to a proclamation of God' s Word that is clear, theologically sound and communicated in a relevant and practical way. The end result of our proclamation is people who are eager to please God by applying His Word to every area of life.

2. Passionate Spirituality (Ephesians 5:18-21)
We recognize that it is only the presence and power of the Holy Spirit that enables us to live obedient, transformed lives. The prayer lives of our congregations reflect a deep dependence upon God. Experiencing God and following Him are hallmarks of our ministries.

3. Fruitful Evangelism (Luke 19:10)
We are driven to reach our neighborhoods, our nation and our world with the gospel of Jesus Christ regardless of racial, economic or political barriers. The budgets, programs and leaders of our local churches reflect a high commitment to outreach and evangelism, both locally and worldwide. Significant numerical growth through vangelism is an expected outcome of this commitment.

4. High-Impact Worship (Psalm 100)
Inspiring worship that glorifies God and engages the heart, mind and emotions of people with God must be a hallmark of our public services. We are committed to meeting the worship needs of the various generations attending our churches. Healthy churches are characterized by a spirit of joy expressed in worship.

5. Mission-And Vision Driven (Matthew 28:19)
Our congregations must have a clear sense of God's mission and a compelling vision for the future that is communicated clearly to all members and that drives their programs, budget, personnel and priorities. We need church structures that facilitate mission and vision. A willingness to change and take risks are crucial to ongoing effectiveness for local church ministry.

6. Leadership Development (2 Timothy 2:2)
We are committed to intentional leadership development and the exercise of the leadership gifts. We desire that trained, godly individuals who are spiritually mature lead our local congregations. We desire to see mature leaders deployed in full-time vocational ministry as workers for the harvest.

7. Church Planting (Acts 1:8; Acts 13-28)
Healthy congregations are committed to reproducing themselves. We have a vision for planting or facilitating the planting of churches in our community, district and world. Believing that God desires the EFCA to reflect the economic and ethnic diversity of our nation, we will be intentional in planting churches among all people who make up our nation and our world.

8. Financial Stewardship (1 Timothy 6:17-19)
Our churches must be financially strong through ongoing stewardship education and the challenging of our congregations to make sacrificial investments in eternity through regular and special gifts. Our pastors must address the issue of money and possessions in a biblical, relevant and practical way. Our congregations must adopt God's heart for the poor, disadvantaged and needy in their allocation of available resources.

9. Intentional Disciple Making (2 Timothy 2:2)
Intentional disciple making processes to the next level of spiritual maturity must be built into the fabric of every local church. These disciple making pathways must be able to take a majority of local church members from new life in Christ to spiritual maturity. We have a commitment to see each member of our congregations using their spiritual gift(s) within the context of the local church.

10. Loving Relationships (John 13:35)
Recognizing that all people are made in God's image and are loved by Him, we believe that our churches must reach across social, economical and racial lines with practical acts of love within the church and the community - with special care for the needy, forgotten and defenseless. We also believe our churches must be characterized by believers who are committed to the reconciliation of relationships among all people. Within the local church, loving relationships produce unity, accountability and a powerful demonstration of God's presence within our communities.

Our Mission
We aim to mobilize a Church Planting Movement in the FLD where every church is engaged in multiplying disciples and churches.

Our Vision
The FLD Church Planting Movement will accelerate evangelism and church planting so as to see a 7-10% growth rate in both church attendance and new churches.

We Are Committed to Church Planting
Church planting is, according to Peter Wagner, the undisputed best way to reach new people for Christ. Church planting is a vital component of any church movement, though it is largely untried as we embark on this new century. Effective church planting efforts led by qualified and gifted church planters using proven procedures are helping us energize an emerging church planting movement in the midwest United States. We are blessed to be part of a much larger family. To catch a glimpse how we fit into a national effort to multiply healthy churches among all people, please visit our National EFCA Church Planting website.

We are committed to helping church planters and their launch teams in every way possible.

With God's help we have established seven support systems that are in the process of being implemented within Forest Lakes District EFCA. They include: Launching...laying quality foundations for a movement.Recruiting...finding potential church planters and challenging them to come on board.Assessing...helping the potential planter affirm his suitability for the task. We have identified the qualities of successful church planters as a basis for the assessment.Training...providing comprehensive equipping events for church planters and their teams, along with other events for potential parent church leaders.Coaching...providing on-going relationships and networking environments for church planters.Supporting...helping the church planter in developing a funding plan for the new hurch.Reproducing...assisting the new church in developing a commitment and plan for planting other churches during its lifetime.

What We Believe - What We Believe

Our Beliefs

Statement of Faith of The Evangelical Free Church of America

The doctrinal position of The Evangelical Free Church of America is summarized in our twelve-article Statement of Faith.

We Believe:
The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men and the Divine and final authority for Christian faith and life.

In one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

That Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He is now our High Priest and Advocate.

That the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during this age, to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

That man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is, therefore, lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

That the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His Resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and, thus become children of God.

That water baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church during the present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation.

That the true Church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the Body of Christ of which He is the Head.

That only those who are, thus, members of the true Church shall be eligible for membership in the local church.

That Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the Church and that every local church has the right, under Christ, to decide and govern its own affairs.

In the personal and premillennial and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this "Blessed Hope" has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.

In the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord; of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.
